Emma Navarro v Caty McNally Head to Head
They never played so far on the WTA Tour but their only match on the ITF Tour was won by McNally in 2020.

Emma Navarro has a 10-3 record so far this year but there are some things to add to that stat. Yes, that’s an impressive start but most of those wins came on the ITF Tour against players that are not ranked inside the top 100. Last week, the American was in Monterrey and she scored a fairly decent win over Jeanjean but then lost to Donna Vekic.
It will take her some time to get used to playing some of the best players in the world but eventually, she’ll get there. There is a lot of talent there and a top 100 debut is looming and coming sooner than later.
Somewhat unusually, Navarro plays her best tennis on clay but most of those wins came on green clay. Her family owns the Charleston event which is played on green clay which is why. As a college tennis player, she’s fairly decent on hard courts and knows the Indian Wells conditions well.
The problem with her is that she lacks the experience right now and the power to really match the best players in the world and she’ll need to get stronger until she can properly challenge them.

McNally Hoping For a Good Result
Caty McNally had a solid start to the year (5-4) and she’s hoping to continue that in Indian Wells. Her previous participation at the event ended in her losing in the first round so perhaps this year will finally see her advance past that.
She didn’t play that well in Australia but she picked up some form lately while playing in Mexico. The court speed and the conditions are pretty similar to those coming up in Indian Wells so that could work out in her favour.
She’s an aggressive player by nature and loves to attack during rallies so that works out in her favour as well. That will certainly be the plan against Navarro who should have some problems matching the intensity that McNally brings.
She defeated her opponent in their only meeting so far so I assume she’ll be confident ahead of this one. The odds favour her heavily as well so there is that.
Navarro v McNally Prediction and Tip
The clear favourite here is McNally as the player with more experience and more raw power. I think she will win the match but I could see Navarro making it interesting.
