Emma Raducanu v Danka Kovinic
Emma Raducanu is finally set to make a return to a tennis court after it was pushed back a few times. She was supposed to play in Austin last week but pulled out. Then she was supposed to play at the Eisenhower Cup but pulled out hours before the match.
Now it seems like fans will finally see her on a tennis court. It’s an interesting matchup between her and Kovinic as they played once before and Kovinic actually won that one in Australia. Emma will certainly want revenge and I think she can get it done.
Neither played too much tennis this year but Kovinic played far more and has 3 more wins. I expect her to produce a solid effort like she generally does and make things interesting. The one in Australia went to three sets and I can see that here.
I certainly expect some rust from Raducanu so that’s why I’m sticking with Kovinic to win at least a set. Her winning the match is not out of the question either.
Tip: Kovinic to win a set – Yes: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Andy Murray v Tomas Etcheverry
Andy Murray admitted before this event that he’s excited to be back here because he always played really well at the event. This year he’s played well at other events too so there is a reason for optimism for the Brit before this one. The draw gave him a clay court player who doesn’t play that well on hard courts but could surprise on this one.
Indian Wells is traditionally slow with a high bounce so players from clay courts generally find more success here than on other hard courts. Both Murray and Etcheverry are having really good years so far and the Argentine can be quite aggressive in rallies.
It’s going to be a tricky one for Murray as he never faced this player. It will take some time getting used to but he’s the huge favourite to take the match. I think that Murray will have enough tricks in his bag to make this relatively simple for him.
I expect him to win in two sets because his opponent will struggle to break down the Brit in rallies. I don’t see him being able to do that over a prolonged period of time.
Tip: Murray to win in straight sets: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Sofia Kenin v Sloane Stephens
Two grand slam winners who are not close to their peak or playing that well. Kenin and Stephens have a lot of things in common and not being able to get back to major-winning ways is the biggest one. Both have a losing record this year but it’s not totally terrible. Kenin won five matches and Stephens six.
Both can be very attacking players but also spray a lot of errors. Indian Wells hasn’t been the best place for either as they didn’t advance past the second round in their final three attempts. The slight favourite in this one is actually Kenin because she did show a bit more leading up to this event.
The H2H itself shows only one match that happened last year. It was in Toronto and Stephens won that one in three sets and it’s entirely possible we see another close one here. I do think both can win, I do thin we can see three sets but I’m leaning towards Stephens.
To me, she seems a bit more likely to win this matchup because of the way they play. It’s going to be really close and this is honestly 50-50 but I’ll pick Stephens.
Tip: Stephens to win: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
