After an indifferent start to the season in Australia, in which Maxime Cressy lost in the first round in Adelaide and the second round of the Australian Open, the big-serving American lost most of the points he earned in the first month of the season from last year.
But Cressy turned his season around with a tremendous run to the final in Montpellier. That week in the south of France saw Cressy conquer the likes of Borna Coric and rising Next Gen star Holger Rune en route to the championship match where he lost to in-form Jannik Sinner.
Although his level dipped in subsequent tournaments, it is pertinent to note that the level of competition did not diminish in the slightest, with the likes of Alex De Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime hardly pushovers.
Cressy will be looking to put up his impressive serve on full display at the Indian Wells Masters where he has won once in the main draw in two visits. With a bye in the first round, he will open up against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the second.

Tabilo Cracks Marterer in Opener
Alejandro Tabilo won the big-hitting contest against fellow qualifier Maximilian Marterer to start his 2023 campaign at the BNP Paribas Open in the best possible fashion.
Tabilo won 6-4 6-3 in a very assured display of power tennis against a fellow lefty. It took him just an hour and 36 minutes, with Tabilo getting a double break in both sets of the match.
Marterer could not keep up with the Chilean’s consistent hitting, with Tabilo clocking a healthy 70% first-serve points won and 82% second-serve points won.
Two more breaks followed in the second set, in a match, the World No. 187 didn’t even need to shift through the gears.

The games spread looks like the safest approach to this one as both players serve at a frenetic pace. We expect Cressy’s recent purple patch in February to aid his cause here.
