Petra Kvitova v Elizabeth Mandlik Head to Head
This will be the first career meeting between World No. 15 Petra Kvitova and World No. 155 Elizabeth Mandlik.

Kvitova Makes 12th Visit to the Desert
This will be Petra Kvitova’s 12th visit to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. And this is one of the fewest big tournaments Kvitova hasn’t managed to solve its puzzle.
She has been to the second week three times before, and lost in the quarterfinals stage twice during her peak years. If she dreams of winning the title next Sunday, then she will need to get through a potential minefield.
Assuming she wins her second-round match against wild card Mandlik, Jelena Ostapenko could be waiting on the wings. With the Latvian hitting her stride in 2023, that is not a cakewalk matchup for Kvitova.
And in the fourth round, top-ranked American Jessica Pegula could lie in wait. In essence, Kvitova might have to play three top-10 seeds just to get to the final. A tough task indeed for the power-hitting Czech.

Mandlik Stuns Riske
Elizabeth Mandlik made waves at last year’s US Open where she scored her maiden Grand Slam win at the US Open. And Mandlik, in as a wild card in the main draw of Indian Wells, won on her debut appearance at the event, beating former World No. 18 Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-3 5-7 7-6 in two hours and 28 minutes.
It was a massive win almost comparable to her upset over Tamara Zidansek in New York last season. Mandlik thought she had the match firmly under her control, taking a 6-3 4-1 lead.
But Riske-Amritraj reeled her in, six of the next seven games, and breaking Mandlik when she served for the match. Mandlik had a second bite of the cherry deep in the third, but once again, her experienced opponent broke to force a tiebreak.
Mandlik, however, was not to be denied as she kept a cool head by winning the tiebreak 7-1.
Kvitova v Mandlik Prediction and Tip
Nerves certainly got the better of Elizabeth Mandlik in her opening match. But she kept a cool head when she needed to and got the win in the end. But this will be a real step up in quality and we don’t envisage Kvitova having too much trouble navigating this second round and setting up a potential meeting against Jelena Ostapenko.
