Magda Linette v Emma Raducanu Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the WTA Seoul last season where Raducanu had won in straight sets.

Linette Stumbles in Austin Opener

After finding herself a career-best ranking of 21st in the world thanks to her solid performances in the season, Linette finally showed some vulnerabilities when she was knocked out in the Austin Open opener.

Linette had gone into that match as a 2/5 favourite against Varvara Gracheva only to go down in three sets.

The reason she started off as a favourite, or for that matter has even risen to that high on the WTA Rankings has been down to her performances in 2023. She had started off with three wins from four matches at the United Cup and then made it as far as the semifinal of the Australian Open.

More vitally, she registered wins over Anett Kontaveit, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Caroline Garcia and Karolina Pliskova in doing so.

A quarterfinal at Merida only added to her confidence and while she did get knocked out early in Austin, there will be no shortage of confidence for her. Especially given she knows her opponent has her injury issues to worry about.

Raducanu Overcomes Fitness Concerns in Opener

Raducanu was the favourite going into her first round match against Danka Kovinic but there was always that caveat – was she fit enough?

There had been a bout of tonsillitis that had laid her low and a return of an old wrist injury could have made anyone frustrated. The good news for Raducanu was she did not let all of that bog her down and came out on top against Kovinic.

The Brit carved out a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kovinic in a match lasting an hour and 22 minutes. This was despite Raducanu dropping her serve on two occasions because she retaliated by breaking her opponent six times.

What was interesting to note here is Raducanu fell 2-0 down in both the sets but came back nicely to ease into her win.

Raducanu has now played in three tournaments this season and won the first round at each of them. Can she win a second round match for the first time this year?

Linette v Raducanu Prediction and Tip

Linette might have lost in the first round in Austin but she has done enough this season to prove she is one to count. Expect her to come through here despite both starting out 10/11 to win it.
