Elena Rybakina v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Rybakina; she won the match in 2020 in Dubai.

Rybakina Eyeing more Wins

Having proven that her title run in Wimbledon last season was not just a fluke, Kazakhastan’s Elena Rybakina now eyes a future where she is reaching finals on the regular.

Her runner-up feat in the Australian Open this January was quite a statement, considering that she had fallen early in her build-up events in Adelaide (but did reach the doubles finals in one of them).

Rybakina ended up beating several big names in Melbourne like Iga Swiatek, Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko, and Victoria Azarenka. That run also brought her to the #10 spot in the singles ranking.

The 23-year-old then reached the quarterfinal in Abu Dhabi and the third round in Dubai, where she withdrew in round three.

Having closed last year at 40-21, Rybakina is definitely not a player to be taken lightly.

Kenin Upsets Stephens

2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin started well in the BNP Paribas Open, beating Sloane Stephens 6-4, 6-1 in 82 minutes. With a good service game, the American wildcard earned a much-needed win.

The 24-year-old has not reached a WTA final since competing in the final of Roland Garros in 2020. Form struggles and injuries have kept her out of contention for a long time, which is also why she has now fallen down from her career high of #4 to the 170th spot.

It’s been an inconsistent season for Kenin so far (6-6). While she began the year with a semifinal run in Hobart, she has since failed to move past the opening matches.

Rybakina v Kenin Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is the clear favourite here, but Kenin’s superb pedigree and skills at the very least put her in solid contention. If both players are feeling well, we may be looking at an entertainingly fierce affair.
