Pedro Martinez v Quentin Halys Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 25 year old Spaniard, and the Frenchman, who is a year older.

Martinez Hoping for Miami Inspiration

Martinez’s world ranking has really suffered after failing to defend the points he earned by winning the tournament in Pune last year, although his best result of 2023 came again in India, where he reached the last eight this time round.

Since then, though, it has been a succession of first or second round defeats, a sequence that continued in Indian Wells, where, having beaten the Swiss Marc-Andreas Huesler in three sets in his opening match, he was then defeated in straight sets by the world number six Felix Augur-Aliassime.

In the intervening period before this tournament, he entered the Challenger event in Phoenix in a bid to find some form, but lost first time out to Roman Saifullin, again beaten in straight sets.

Playing again in Miami might give him some overdue inspiration, though. He reached the third round of this tournament last year, which represents his best showing to date in a Masters’ tournament.

Halys Continues to Enjoy Mixed Results

Halys’ season continues to be a mixture of good and bad.

On the plus side is the fact that he already has two quarter-finals under his belt on the main tour, the stage he reached in both Auckland and Montpellier.

The flip side of that are those tournaments where things did not go so well for him, like the Australian Open, and, again, in Indian Wells, where he met the qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round.

Despite Halys romping through the first set, the German hit back to win the next two.

Like Martinez, he entered the Challenger event in Phoenix, and did better than the Spaniard, reaching the semi-finals before going down in three sets to the world number 101, Alexander Shevchenko.

Martinez v Halys Prediction and Tip

Whilst neither man has been in the best of form in 2023, Halys will regard himself as favourite, not only because of his higher ranking, but also because of their comparative performances in Phoenix.
