Things haven’t been too encouraging for Pedro Cachin in 2023, neither on hard nor on his favourite clay.
The 27-year-old Argentine brings a 2-9 season record to Miami, where he will be making his debut. It is in stark contrast to his 55-22 season last year, which included four Challenger titles from seven finals. But this year has been a bit different in terms of the level of competition as he has only played in tour-level events.
The world no. 63 has struggled so far this season but he will take heart from the fact that his second win of the year came over Nikoloz Basilashvili in Indian Wells earlier this month. So a win on hard court not too long back would have boosted his confidence a little. He went down to Alexander Zverev in the second round in Indian Wells.
His other win this year came over Thiago Monteiro in Buenos Aires.
Cachin had started the season by losing five matches in a row. The win in Buenos Aires was his first but then he suffered a string of three consecutive defeats on clay, before snapping the losing streak in Indian Wells.

Fucsovics Coming Off Solid Showing in Indian Wells
Marton Fucsovics had a good run in Indian Wells, reaching the Round of 16 for the first time in what was his fifth appearance in the tournament.
The Hungarian came back from a set down to beat JJ Wolf in the opener and then stunned 16th seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets in round 2. He followed it up with another straight sets win, this time over Alex Molcan, but could not reach a maiden Masters 1000 quarterfinal as he was sent packing by Taylor Fritz.
Fucsovics had started the 2023 season by winning the Canberra Challenger and he also made it to the third round at the Australian Open.
Overall, the 31-year-old is 11-7 from all his matches and 7-6 on the tour this year.
This will also be his fifth appearance in Miami. His best so far has been a third round finish in 2021. Can he match or better that this year?
