Elise Mertens v Alycia Parks
Alycia Parks has struggled mightily after leaving the indoor hard court circuit of Europe finding herself losing multiple matches in a row. She’ll have a chance to snap that negative run at the Miami Open but the odds don’t favour her.
Meeting Mertens for the first time is tricky in itself but she’s not that accustomed to playing in outside conditions. Her serve gets impacted and she serves worse which is a major problem. She’s a very raw tennis player with much of what she does well coming from her serve. If it’s not there she’s in trouble.
The speed of the court should also benefit Mertens more because it’s more on the slower side and Parks won’t be able to finish points that quickly. The Belgian player has won 10 matches so far and she’s done fairly well in Miami in the past.
The odds favour her the Belgian and I believe she will get it done in straight sets because she’s simply better outdoors right now.
Tip: Mertens to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Danka Kovinic v Nao Hibino
Nao Hibino booked a spot in the main draw of the Miami Open by winning two matches in the qualifiers and she played really well. Her speedy movement around the court gave her opponents quite a bit of trouble and Kovinic might be facing a similar issue.
She’s certainly not as quick as the Japanese player on the court but she tends to play shots that are a bit more forceful. Her clay background will help her here certainly but she’s generally a very hard player to play because she fights a lot and doesn’t give up on rallies.
They played twice so far and each player won one match a piece. The only match this year was won by Kovinic on the quick courts of Australia. These will be a bit different so I expect more battling from the players. Kovinic can certainly win but I think the over is likely.
I don’t think Hibino will but I think she can win a set so that’s why the over seems like a good idea to play.
Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Linda Fruhvirtova v Katherino Sebov
Linda Fruhvirtova returns to the Miami Open where she made some headlines a few years ago as a teenager. She’s still very young but far more experienced and she’s favoured to win this match and with very good reason. She had a solid outing at the Indian Wells Masters and people expect her to continue playing that solid tennis.
Sebov is a very aggressive player who is capable of some amazing tennis on the court but she’s also far more inconsistent than Fruvirtova. I expect her to trouble the Czech youngster at times in this match but overall she won’t prove match enough.
They never played against each other but Sebov is 10-2 on the year which is notable. Most of those matches were not played on the WTA Tour so keep that in mind. Fruhvirtova is pretty solid at 7-6 especially since all of her matches came on the WTA tour.
I think the straight-sets win is likely but in case Sebov produces a crazy effort the handicap is another option. Pick anything from -3.5 on Fruhvirtova to the 2-0 win.
Tip: Fruhvirtova to win 2-0: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
