Emil Ruusuvuori v Nuno Borges Head to Head

A fourth round entrant at this tournament in 2021, Ruusuvuori will hope he can at least emulate his last season’s showing in Miami where he was bundled out in the second round when he takes to court for this opener.
Ruusuvuori is coming off some reasonable form too.
At the Indian Wells Open, he had defeated Constant Lestienne and Roberto Bautista-Agut in his first two rounds to enter the last 32 stage. And while he did go down to Alexander Zverev in that match, it wasn’t before he had put up a brave front.
Rather interestingly, Ruusuvuori went on to play in the Phoenix Challenger as a stopover before Miami and lost to Quentin Halys in the second round. That defeat might not have gone down too well with Ruusuvuori who was a 9/20 favourite coming into that encounter.
He now faces the winner of that tournament in Phoenix

Borges on a Seven-Match Winning Streak
It may have come on the lower circuit but winning seven matches in a row is no mean feat and for Borges to have done that coming into this match should give him a lot of confidence.
The Portuguese player went on to defeat the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Alexei Popyrin and Alexander Shevchenko to lift the trophy at the Phoenix Challenger last week. He was then forced to play in a couple of qualifiers on the very next two days – making it six successive matches in six days.
And he won them both, overcoming Steve Johnson and Borna Gojo.
What needs to be seen is that form aside, can he overcome his exhausted body to try and carve out an eighth successive win here.

While on paper, Ruusuvuori is a favourite we won’t put it beyond Borges to test his opponent. Had it not been for a seventh successive match in as many days, we would have gone with Borges to win it too.
