Elena Rybakina v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

They have never played against each other on the WTA circuit before this. They did meet in 2019 on the ITF circuit and it was Kalinskaya who had come through as a winner.

Rybakina Primed to Kick on after Indian Wells Triumph

When you have had a couple of weeks like the ones that Rybakina had in the lead-up to the Miami Open, it does become difficult to get back to your training and to your disciplines and settle down quickly enough for the next tournament three days later.

Which is what Rybakina will have to do after having not just won the Indian Wells Open but also having done that in the manner that she did.

The Wimbledon champion, who had also made it all the way to the final of the Australian Open earlier this year, Rybakina needed to overcome the likes of Sofia Kenin, Paula Badosa, Iga Swiatek and the Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka to clinch that title.

That she defeated all the aforementioned four players in straight sets and crushed Swiatek 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinal, speaks a lot about the kind of form that Rybakina is in at the moment.

Other than complacency, it doesn’t look like she is beatable at the moment.

Kalinskaya Eases Past Kasintseva

Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva has never been ranked better than 121st in the world and coming into her opening round match against Kalinskaya, she was 171st on the rankings charts and a 2/1 underdog. And that’s how Kalinskaya forced her to play too, winning the opener in straight sets.

Kalinskaya, who hasn’t the best of starts to the season, needed an hour and 28 minutes to overturn a slow start and clinch the second round berth 6-4, 6-2.

The Russian was down a break in the first set, falling 3-1 behind but from that point on broke Kasintseva four more times to register the victory. A first serve percentage of 71 helped no end, with Kalinskaya winning all of the first serve points in the second set.

This was her sixth win from 11 main draw matches this season but to go with that, Kalinskaya has also been knocked out of three tournaments in the qualifying stage itself. Coming up against Rybakina things won’t get any easier.

Rybakina v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

The only thing that can get the better of Rybakina is a combination of fatigue and complacency, and that’s something she will need to guard against. Otherwise, we can expect a straight-set win here.
