Paula Badosa v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

Siegemund leads 2-1, last beating Badosa in the 2020 French Open fourth round in straight sets.

Siegemund beats Sherif

Germany’s Laura Siegemund is off to a good start in Miami as she dismissed Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 37 minutes. It was a well-deserved win for the 35-year-old, who started as a qualifier and beat Diana Shnaider and Eva Lys en route to the main event.

Siegemund’s singles form hasn’t been that great of late (10-8 in 2023), with her third-round showing in the Aus Open being her sole highlight.

She has done well on the doubles side of things, having won the WTA Hobart and reached the final in Indian Wells – respectively, with Kirsten Flipkens and Beatriz Haddad Maia. In fact, Laura was also a champion in last year’s Miami Open doubles.

Now ranked #114, Siegemund is just one win away from posting her best results in the tournament.

Badosa, Struggling with Form

2023 has not been kind to the former #2, current #29 Paula Badosa. The 25-year-old Spaniard has been out of sorts since picking up an abductor injury in Adelaide.

Since then, she missed the Australian Open and lost in the opening rounds in Dubai and Doha – respectively, to Maia and Liudmila Samsonova. Most recently, she competed in the BNP Paribas Open, where she lost to Elena Rybakina in straight sets in round three.

A quarterfinalist in Miami last season, Badosa’s chances of replicating such a feat are low. The form and injury woes, combined with an incredibly tricky draw – where the winner of this match will likely play Rybakina – do make things difficult for the 21st seed.

Badosa v Siegemund Prediction and Tip

At high odds of 9/4, Siegemund is a value bet worth making – considering that she is well-experienced and her opponent is not in the best of shape or form. Expect an intriguing affair where Badosa will start as the odds-on favourite.
