Alex de Minaur v Quentin Halys Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, on clay in Lyon six years ago, Halys winning in three sets.

De Minaur Keen to Forget Indian Wells

De Minaur has a habit in recent years of reaching the fourth round of major tournaments, without being able to go further.

He has reached that stage for the past two seasons at his home Grand Slam in Melbourne, and he had also repeated that feat in Indian Wells, although that sequence came to an unfortunate end from his perspective two weeks ago, when he was beaten in his first match by the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

The Australian, though, is already a winner on the ATP main tour this year, claiming the trophy in Acapulco, his seventh senior title.

He would dearly love a deep run in Miami to try and overcome a few psychological barriers when it comes to major tournaments.

Halys Eases Past Spaniard

Coming into Miami, Halys would have described his season as mixed, with good results like quarter-finals in Auckland and Montpellier, interspersed with some disappointing performances, including a first round defeat to the German Jan-Lennard Struff in Indian Wells.

However, the Frenchman may be feeling a little better about life after a comfortable victory over the Spanish player Pedro Martinez.

An early break put Halys in control of the first set, which he then consolidated with another break.

The second set was dominated by serve, with the only break point coming on the Halys’ serve, which he saved.

In the ensuing tie-break, Halys held four match points, and, although Martinez saved three of them, the Frenchman made the fourth one count.

De Minaur v Halys Prediction and Tip

De Minaur will want to erase the memory of what happened to him in Indian Wells with a good victory, and will aim to deal with the challenge of Halys without too much difficulty.
