Elena Rybakina v Paula Badosa Head to Head

Including the qualifiers and the Billie Jean King Cup, there have been six previous meetings between these two players and Badosa leads 4-2. The second of those wins for Rybakina, however, came at the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago, also in the third round.

Rybakina Needs Three Sets to Dispel Kalinskaya

Rybakina has had the kind of run this season that is more befitting for a top-three player than her current world number seven ranking. And some might, rightfully, argue that had it not been for the points she lost at Wimbledon last year despite winning the title, she might have been a top-three player long ago.

There were no surprises, therefore, when Rybakina won her second round match here in Miami against Anna Kalinskaya.

The Indian Wells Open title winner did find the going a tad tough during some phases in the encounter but found a way to crunch out a victory. She was on court for two hours and 16 minutes to claim her third round spot, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 against Kalinskaya.

This was despite losing her serve four times including once in the very first game of the match and one other time in the decider after she had just broken her opponent.

In the end, her experience in such situations proved to be too good for Kalinskaya but she would have to shrug off her serving woes against Badosa.

Badosa Scrapes Past Siegemund

Much Rybakina, Badosa also did not have it easy despite starting out a 3/10 favourite against Laura Siegemund.

Badosa was on court for nearly three hours before finally registering a 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-2 win over her German opponent to make it to the third round of this WTA 1000 event. She had done the same last year too, going two better to enter the quarterfinals.

Despite breaking her opponent five times, what would worry the former world number two is how easily she lost her serve on four occasions. This was after she faced four break-points in the entire match lost all of them.

If that’s the ease with which a struggling, 114th-ranked player could break Badosa, she could be heading for trouble against the power-packed Rybakina. The good news for Badosa was she was able to spot an opportunity in the form of her opponent’s second serve, winning 62% of those points.

Rybakina v Badosa Prediction and Tip

Not surprising that Rybakina starts off a 2/5 favourite to win this. We will be backing Rybakina who is on a nine-match winning streak coming into this one.
