Jelena Ostapenko v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

Ostapenko holds a 3-0 lead over Maia, last defeating her in the Cincinnati Open round of 64 in straight sets.

Maia Passes Martincova Test

13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia had to work hard to earn the victory in Miami. Facing Tereza Martincova, the Brazilian found herself in a two-hour, three-set slogfest which ended in a wild 7-6(4), 0-6, 6-0 win for her.

With this, she has now reached the same stage she did in Indian Wells most recently, where she lost to Emma Raducanu in three sets.

Maia, now ranked #14, has had a decent year so far. She reached a career-high at the 12th spot in February, supported by a quarterfinal feat in Adelaide and Doha, and a semifinal stint in Abu Dhabi.

Beatriz’s record stands at 11-6, with wins coming against several prominent players like Paula Badosa, Daria Kasatkina, Elena Rybakina, and Amanda Anisimova.

Since 2021, Maia has made commendable leaps on tour by winning over 110 matches with 8 trophies and losing only 48.

Ostapenko Eases Past Bjorklund

Jelena Ostapenko found herself in an easy opener against Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund, winning 6-3, 6-4.

Seeded 24th, Ostapenko’s record in Miami is an eventful one; she was the runner-up here in 2018 and has since only reached the mid-rounds.

Her recent form has also been a bit underwhelming; since reaching the quarterfinal at the Australian Open, the 25-year-old has lost early in Abu Dhabi and Doha and reached the third round in Dubai and Indian Wells.

Compared to Maia, Jelena’s pedigree is a lot better, with 13 career finals which include a Grand Slam and two WTA 1000 events.

Ostapenko v Maia Prediction and Tip

Perhaps, the fourth time is the charm for Maia, who is yet to beat Ostapenko in a professional encounter. Both players have had a similar season so far, which makes them evenly matched for this fixture. That said, Ostapenko will start as the odds-on favourite owing to her superior experience – but she may be tested.
