Frances Tiafoe v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
It is 1-1 from their two previous meetings. Both the meetings were last year with Tiafoe winning in Paris and Sonego winning at the Davis Cup.

No. 12 seed Frances Tiafoe survived a second round scare as he edged past Yosuke Watanuki on Saturday.
The world no. 14 lost the first set in the tiebreak, before clawing his way back into the contest and beating the Japanese qualifier 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Watanuki served 17 aces and struck 54 winners in the match. Tiafoe in contrast hit just 12 aces and 35 winners, but he also had 14 fewer unforced errors than Watanuki’s 29.
Tiafoe, who was a semifinalist in Indian Wells, improved to 14-5 this season. He was also a quarterfinalist in Dallas and Acapulco and had played a key role in the United States’ successful campaign at the United Cup.
This is the sixth time that Tiafoe is making an appearance in Miami. He was a quarterfinalist in 2019 and made it to the fourth round in the last two years. Can he reach the round of 16 a fifth time in Miami?

Sonego Takes Down Evans
After taking down Dominic Thiem in the first round, Lorenzo Sonego scored a come-from-behind win over Dan Evans in the second to continue his charge in Miami.
The 27-year-old world no. 59 lost serve in the very first game of the match to lose the first set. But he did not drop serve again in the entire match and saved 12 of 13 break points. He also had six opportunities to break Evans and he took half of them to beat the Briton 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
This is just the second time in his fourth appearance in Miami that the Italian has made it to the third round. He had made it to the fourth round in 2021.
Sonego has not been very consistent this season and the two wins in Miami improved his season record to 7-8. He was a quarterfinalist in Montpellier and Dubai but he also made four first round exits. Now having won consecutive matches in Miami can he win three in a row for the first time in 2023?

Tiafoe has been in excellent form this season and has been consistent as well. He has the superior game and will hold edge over the Italian.
