Elina Svitolina v Daria Gavrilova Head to Head

The two players have quite a history, spanning across seven matches since 2015. Svitolina, not so surprisingly, has won five of those matches.

She will be heading into her eighth meeting with Gavrilova on the back of a 5-2 lead. They last met in the Miami Open last year, where the Ukranian won in three sets.

Svitolina Survives an Early Upset

The World No. 6 started her campaign in the tournament against the American Sofia Kenin. It was quite a performance by Kenin, who tested Svitolina and pushed her to the limits.

The Ukranian had to stage a comeback after losing the first set and by all means, it was a very close affair. Svitolina’s winning experience came in handy in the second set tiebreaker, where she won by a margin of two points. After that, it was a straight road to victory for her and ultimately, Svitolina won 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

She arrived in Indian Wells after a solid performance in Doha and Dubai, where she reached the final. In the first case, she lost to Simona Halep while in the second, she was knocked out by the eventual champion Belinda Bencic. Nonetheless, her consistency to reach the penultimate rounds has done well for her.

Gavrilova’s Best Run of the Season

Gavrilova had participated in six different tournaments before coming to the Indian Wells Open. She lost her opening matches in all of those six competitions, failing to register even a single win. Her last appearance was in Acapulco, where she lost in the first round to Mihaela Buzarnescu.

However, all of that changed here when she managed to register a couple of impressive wins. In the first round, she defeated Dayana Yastremska in three sets. After that, Gavrilova met the number 29 seed Buzarnescu where she avenged her recent defeat in Acapulco in a remarkable style.

On the back of a 6-2, 6-2 win, the Aussie reached the third round.

Elina Svitolina v Daria Gavrilova Tips & Predictions

Given Svitolina’s recent form, she will be expected to win this one. However, she faced some difficulties against Kenin and that may prove to be problematic here against a confident-looking Gavrilova.

Tip: Svitolina to win: 11/50 (Unibet)
