Bautista Agut on a Four-Match Losing Streak

Roberto Bautista Agut comes to Monte-Carlo in poor form, having lost the last four matches that he has played.

Ranked no. 28 in the world, Bautista Agut is 8-9 overall this season. He had good start to 2023, reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open, but since the first major of the season, Bautista Agut has won just one match in 6 tournaments. That win came in the first round in Doha. But he lost in the next round and then lost his opening matches (second round matches) in Indian Wells, Miami and Estoril.

The 34-year-old Spaniard will be desperate to regain his form in Monte-Carlo, where he makes his ninth appearance.

Bautista Agut has reached the round of 16 four times in the ATP 1000 tournament but has never reached the quarterfinals. Can he do it this year? Seems an uphill task for the 11-time tour-level champion, but he will look to begin well in the tournament and then build from there.

Ymer Making His Debut

Mikael Ymer is set to make his debut in Monte-Carlo. He is 6-9 on the tour this season and 17-11 overall across levels.

The 24-year-old Swede had a bright start to the season, reaching the last eight in Adelaide-2, a final of a Challenger tournament in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, and another tour-level quarterfinal in Marseille.

As a result of a solid start, Ymer has moved up the rankings and is currently sitting on a career-high ranking of no. 53, achieved on March 20.

A one-time finalist on the tour, Ymer didn’t have a great clay court season last year, finishing with a 3-8 record on the surface from all his matches played across levels.

Bautista Agut v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Although Bautista Agut is struggling at the moment, he has a pretty good record on clay, which includes two titles. He is also much more experienced than his opponent and has played a lot in Monte Carlo, so he will be familiar with the conditions. Expect the Spaniard to start with a win.
