Alex de Minaur v Andy Murray Head to Head

De Minaur has won both their previous matches. This is their first meeting on clay.

De Minaur Has Shown Fine Form on Hard Courts in 2023

Alex De Mianur will be making his first clay court appearance of the season. He was in decent touch on the surface last year, finishing with a 9-6 record, which included two semifinal appearance in Barcelona and Lyon.

The Australian is in fine form this year and brings a 13-7 record into the tournament. He won his seventh ATP title by beating Tommy Paul in the title clash in Acapulco last month.

Ranked no. 19th in the world, the 24-year-old is however currently on a two-match losing streak. he lost his second round matches in Indian Wells and Miami to Marton Fucsovics and Quentin Halys respectively. He had a first-round bye in both the tournaments.

De Mianur has played plenty of ATP 1000 tournaments but only twice has he reached the round of 16, both times in Indian Wells.

In Monte-Carlo, he has a 1-2 record, with that one win coming last year. How far can he go this year?

Murray Lacks Practice on Clay

Andy Murray has played just three matches on clay since 2017. Two of those were last year and he won both of them at the Madrid Masters before pulling out of the tournament with an illness.

The 35-year-old Scot will be making his 10th main draw appearance in Monte-Carlo and a first since his third round exit in 2017. Murray has never gone beyond the semifinals in the tournament, having reached that far thrice in 2009, 2011 and 2016. He was also a quarterfinalist in 2012.

Murray won’t be expected to go far in the tournament as he has barely played on the surface for six years now. However, the world no. 57 will look to challenge the Aussie in the first round.

Murray, too, has been in good form on hard courts this year and brings an 8-5 record into the tournament. The 14-time Masters 1000 winner had reached his 71st final of his career in Qatar but could not add to his 46 titles going down to Daniil Medvedev in the final.

Can Murray pull off a surprise win on Sunday?

De Minaur v Murray Prediction and Tip

Murray’s lack of match practice on clay, and De Minaur’s superior record in the head to head rivalry suggest the Australian will be the favourite in this contest.
