Taylor Fritz v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in a hardcourt competition earlier this year when they faced off in the United Cup. Fritz was a straight-set winner.

Fritz Saves Set-Points in Wawrinka Win

It took more than hour in the first set to break Stan Wawrinka’s hold in their second round encounter before easing his way through the second set to complete a straight-set win over the Swiss player.

Fritz saved five set-points in the opening set, including two off his own serve at 5-6 and three more in the ensuing tie-breaker before scraping through. He clinched his place in the third round with a 7-6 (10), 6-2 for his second successive entry into the round of 16 in this tournament.

Last season, he had found himself in the quarterfinal here but for a while in the first set it looked like that was going to be a distant dream for this season.

The American need to dig really deep before he found his rhythm against the now-exhausted Wawrinka, breaking him in the fourth and eighth game to come through.

Can he now overcome the big challenge of Lehecka here?

Lehecka Shrugs off Underdog Tag

Lehecka has grown tremendously as a player but if there were any doubts about his performance on clay before this, they would have vanished.

For the second match in a row, Lehecka carved out a straight-set win to add to his clay court victory tally. And this time around it was against the 8/11 favourite Grigor Dimitrov that Lehecka managed to come through.

In a match lasting an hour and 41 minutes, Lehecka was broken twice in the first set but came back to level things out both times. And he then eased his way through the tie-breaker that followed.

The second set was a lot easier for the Czech who did not face a single break-point but at the same time took a 40-0 lead on Dimitrov’s serve in the ninth game. He broke immediately and then served it out to win 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Can one expect him to put up a similar showing against Fritz?

Fritz v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

While Fritz’s overall experience and ranking make him a favourite in this one, we think there’s not much to choose between these two and we could see a close battle here.
