Jannik Sinner v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

These players have faced off three times with Hurkacz having won two of them.

Hurkacz Scrappy But Wins Again

For the second match in a row, Hurkacz looked a pale shadow of a player who had made the quarterfinal of the Monte-Carlo Masters and Madrid Masters last season. And for the second successive time he found a way to come through, winning a match that lasted two hours and 31 minutes.

Hurkacz, who was a 3/5 favourite to win his second round encounter, made it through 6-3, 6-7 (3), 7-5 against Jack Draper to progress in the tournament.

It started with Hurkacz running off to a 5-0 lead in the lead with two breaks of serves and while he did drop his own serve once after that, he went a set up. Draper broke early in the second but Hurkacz levelled things off to push it into a tie-breaker.

Draper then shrugged off a 1-2 deficit in it to win six of the following seven points and grabbed the equaliser.

The two players traded breaks in the sixth and seventh game of the decider but the experienced Hurkacz found a way to squeak past his opponent when Draper served to stay in the match at 5-6. One match-point is all it took him.

Hurkacz will be supremely confident after those two scrappy wins.

Sinner Doesn’t Take Too Much Time with Schwartzman

Sinner was a huge favourite against the woefully out of sorts Diego Schwartzman when they faced off in their second round match and his job was made a lot easier when the Argentine retired from the encounter because of a shoulder injury.

The world number eight needed just 38 minutes on court and was leading 6-0, 3-1 when Schwartzman pulled the plug on the encounter.

Playing in his first match on clay for 2023, previous year’s quarterfinalist Sinner made just half a dozen unforced errors in the entire match to make life even more difficult than it was for Schwartzman because of the injury.

This follows a top performance for Sinner in Indian Wells and Miami before this where he reached the semifinal and final respectively.

No wonder then that Sinner is a heavy favourite here.

Sinner v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

We expect Sinner to complete a straight-set win over Hurkacz in the end with the Polish player trying hard to get moving but his opponent not allowing him to play his shots.
