Stefanos Tsitsipas v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players at the highest level and Tsitsipas has won them – at the 2019 Paris Masters and 2022 Australian Open. This will be their first match on clay.

Tsitsipas Easy Winner over Jarry

Nicolas Jarry has had a solid season on clay but he never stood a chance against the two-time defending champion.

The world number three, who had earlier benefitted from the retirement of Benjamin Bonzi in the second round, was on court for an hour and 34 minutes in his straight-set win over Jarry.

Tsitsipas got himself a break of serve in each of the two sets while facing just two break-points of his own which he saved.

And with 80% of the first serves won, Tsitsipas would be rather proud of his performance barring one small aspect – his inability to convert eight of the 10 break-points he earned.

What needs to be seen is if Tsitsipas can now carry his form at Monte-Carlo, which has already seen him win 12 matches in a row here, into his quarterfinal here. Or will Fritz stop him in his tracks?

Fritz Struggles against Lehecka

For the second match in a row, Fritz had a difficult time getting past his opponent but he has managed to do that to emulate his showing from the last season.

Fritz needed three sets and an hour and 44 minutes to dismantle Jiri Lehecka in his third round match, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to enter the quarterfinals.

An early break of serve is all that Lehecka needed to clinch the first set with the Czech losing just five points on his own serve. Fritz retaliated with a break in the second game of the second set only for Lehecka to break back and tie the set at 2-2.

Things went on serve after that till 5-4 when Lehecka failed to serve to stay in the set, Fritz winning the set off his second match-point.

With the momentum having shifted, Fritz claimed his place in the last eight stage with two breaks of serves in the final set.

Earlier he had overcome Stan Wawrinka in a gruelling two-setter but now faces one of his greatest challenges of the season – playing the two-time defending champion on clay.

Tsitsipas v Fritz Prediction and Tip

No prizes for guessing who the favourite is and we will have go with him too – Tsitsipas will be too strong for Fritz in this one.
