Gregoire Barrere v Hamad Mededovic Head to Head

Barrere Shocked in Monte-Carlo Qualifiers

Ranked 57th in the world, which is Barrere’s career-best, he had come into the Monte-Carlo qualifiers with an opening match against fellow Frenchman Benoit Paire as a favourite. Unfortunately for the 3/5 favourite, he went down to Paire 6-3, 6-3 to crash out of the first qualifying round.

To go down in that fashion to a player who has fallen to 163rd in the world and is yet to win a main draw match at the highest level this season would have been a bitter pill to swallow for Barrere.

Then again, however, Barrere’s record on clay is anything but good.

He has a career win-loss record of 20-38 across surfaces, giving him a win percentage of 35%, but on dirt, this goes down to a mere 18%. Barrere has won just two matches on clay in main rounds.

Can he turn that around here?

Mededovic Hoping for Maiden ATP Win

Mededovic’s only win at the highest level came in the Davis Cup earlier this season when he overcame Norway’s Viktor Durasovic but that aside he has lost three singles matches.

He enters this tournament as a wild-card, despite having recently struggled at two of the clay court Challenger competitions. At Zadar, he was knocked out in the second round before losing his opener in Split last week.

This isn’t to say that Mededovic isn’t much of a clay-court player. Far from it in fact.

The Serb had won a title in Szekesfehervar in March on dirt and all his titles at the lower level of tennis – at Challengers and Futures – have come on clay. All five of them.

This year, however, Mededovic showed he has more strings to his bow by also making the semifinal of a Challenger competition on hardcourt surface. While that might not have a lot of bearing here, it will give him some confidence.

Especially against a player who hasn’t earned a great reputation on clay.

Barrere v Mededovic Prediction and Tip

Mededovic starts off a favourite here and not surprisingly so we will be backing him to win his maiden ATP main draw match. Could see bit of a scuffle though.
