It took Molcan nearly three hours but in the end he came through his second round match against Alexei Popyrin to make it to the last eight.

Molcan, who had earlier won successive matches at both, Indian Wells and Miami, made it three such occurrences in a row with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5 victory over his Aussie opponent.

Enduring 12 aces from Popyrin and despite getting broken four times in the encounter, it was Molcan’s ability to keep his nerve in check that helped him come through in the end.

This can be seen from the fact that both had a first serve percentage of 68% but it was Molcan who won 73% of the second serve points as compared to a mere 47% for Popyrin.

This included just the one break of serve early in the final set which gave Djere a 2-0 lead, following which there was no looking back for him. He saved one break-point en route serving for the match at 5-4 and then clinched it off the first match-point he got.
