Who is Playing at the 2023 Madrid Open in Madrid?
The 2023 Madrid Open will feature a 96-player draw in both the men’s and women’s sections. Although the draw is yet to be released at the time of writing, the player list is now confirmed.
The biggest news from the men’s side is the absence of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic announced the news on Saturday, 24 hours after his defeat in Banja Luka for an undisclosed injury. While Nadal has not yet recovered from the hip injury he suffered in Melbourne.
Carlos Alcaraz, therefore, is the top seed. The Spaniard is due to play the Barcelona final at the time of writing and will be joined by Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev who lead the top four seeds.
On the women’s side, defending champion Ons Jabeur will likely miss out after suffering a calf injury in the Stuttgart semifinals. World No. 11 Belinda Bencic has confirmed her withdrawal from both Madrid and Rome.
