Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and it came at the 2021 Paris Masters. Ivashka had won that in straight sets.

What’s Going Wrong for Ramos-Vinolas?

Ramos-Vinolas is in the twilight of his tennis career and yet one would have expected him to do a lot better than he has this season.

The Spaniard, known for his exploits on clay, having won four career ATP titles on it including two over the past couple of seasons, is on a seven-match losing streak coming into this tournament.

What makes it worse for Ramos-Vinolas is five of those seven defeats have come on clay, so it’s not like not playing on his favourite surface can be used as an excuse either.

He did make the semifinal at the Cordoba and then followed it up with a quarterfinal appearance in Rio but since nothing seems to have gone his way.

A first round at Santiago could well have been disregarded as a one-one but when the same repeated on the clays of Estoril, Monte-Carlo and Barcelona, questions would be raised. Especially after he lost to the 4/1 underdog Emilio Gomez in the last match that he played.

Can the turnaround come sooner than later for Ramos-Vinolas?

Ivashka Surprised at Barcelona Opener

While his opponent has faced some terrible form in recent times, Ivashka himself is coming off a shock defeat in the first round of the Barcelona Open.

At 3/5 odds, Ivashka was the favourite in his Barcelona opener against Nuno Borges but was crushed 6-2, 6-3 in that encounter. This came on the heels of a first round win against Dan Evans at the Monte-Carlo Masters where he was then ousted by Karen Khachanov.

More known for his play in hardcourt competitions, Ivashka has a 14-19 career win-loss record on clay as compared to a far superior 59-52 on hardcourts. He has also never won a main draw match in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament played on clay.

The one big mitigating factor here which makes Ivashka a favourite here is the horror of a show from his opponent here.

Ramos-Vinolas v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Unless Ramos-Vinolas is badly injured we think he will win at some point on clay – we don’t think he has gone that bad all of a sudden. Which is why odds of 11/10 for his victory in this one sound tempting to us. Backing a three-setter too.
