Fruhvirtova Looks to Make a Quick Start

Linda Fruhvirtova will be making her second appearance in Madrid. Last year, she was beaten by Kaia Kanepi in straight sets.

The 17-year-old brings an 8-8 season record into this year’s tournament. She had made it to the round of 16 on her Australian Open debut this year, but has been quiet since then.

Fruhvirtova will be playing in her third clay court tournament. She lost in the second round in Charleston, but won one and lost one in the qualifying rounds in Stuttgart.

The rising Czech star has seen constant improvement in her game and rankings over the last one year. A relatively unknown at the start of 2022 season, she broke into the top 100 following her maiden title at the Chennai Open last year.

Currently ranked no. 58, she had peaked to a career-high of no. 50 on March 20 this year.

Volynets to Make Madrid Debut

It has been an up and down season for Katie Vollynets so far but the world no. 103 has shown a lot of promise this year, climbing to career-high ranking of no. 74 on March 6 before slipping down once again.

Vollynets is 11-7 across levels. She made her third round debut at a Grand Slam at the Australian Open and reached the semifinals in Austin, defeating Anastasia Potapova, Alison Riske and Peyton Steans en route.

The 21-year-old is a good player on clay court wit both of her ITF titles coming on the surface.

The American, who scored her first ever top 10 win this year when she beat Veronika Kudermetova at the Australian Open, failed to qualify for Stuttgart last week. But she will be hoping to make the most of her first opportunity in Madrid.

Fruhvirtova v Volynets Prediction and Tip

Given Fruhvirtova’s rise over the last one year, there are expectations from her to do well at tour level events. She is the superior player in the contest and is expect to edge past Volynets.
