Krajinovic’s Been Struggling for a While Now
Having made a decent start to the season at the Pune Open, Krajinovic would have hoped for a better showing in the rest of 2023. Unfortunately for him, things haven’t gone his way since then.
He has been a part of eight tournaments since that quarterfinal exit including one on the Challenger circuit but won just one main draw match. That came at the Montpellier Open.
On clay, things have been even more dire for Krajinovic as he lost in the opening rounds at both, the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Banja Luka Open. At the former, he had started out as a qualifier and stumbled at the second hurdle at the hands of Marton Fucsovics only to get a chance as a lucky loser.
And then he lost to Roberto Bautista-Agut in that match.
Can he turn things around against a player who seems to have found a way to start winning on clay?

O’Connell Making it Count on Clay
Coming into the European clay court swing, O’Connell hadn’t had a lot going his way in terms of results.
Sure he had made the quarterfinals at Doha but that aside he had won just one main draw match all season. That’s till he played on the clay courts of Marrakesh Open. There, O’Connell surprised Botic van de Zandschulp on his way to the quarterfinals, before making the semifinal of the Split Challenger.
And then at Munich, O’Connell ran past Ugo Humbert, Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli to enter the last four stage.
While he fell very quickly to Holger Rune, there is no doubting the amount of confidence that O’Connell brings to this encounter. Especially against a player who has been struggling to get going all year.
