Strycova Returns After Two Years

Barbora Strycova has not played tennis in more than two years as her last event was the 2021 Australian Open. The Czech veteran is very well-known in the tennis community and is a fine player but it’s going to be hard for her to return with a strong result.

She’s played for a long time and is not that young anymore so taking on a very young and up-and-coming player will be tough. Clay has been a decent surface for her traditionally but there are many problems she’s going to have to overcome.

The main one is rust because she didn’t play competitively for over two years. Even better and younger players struggle to return with a good result in their first match so I don’t expect much form her.

She’ll likely do better in doubles but singles will be tough.

Cocciaretto Hopeful of A Quick Win

Elisabetta Cocciaretto had a really decent draw in Madrid getting a player that hasn’t played in more than two years. Obviously, she’s the big favourite after a really solid start to the year with a 13-8 record overall and 5-0 on clay. It’s been a great surface for her in the past and she posted a 31-14 record on it last year.

This is a match where I expect her to attack her opponent pretty early in rallies and eventually, that should result in the Italian breaking down her opponent physically.

She likes to play very aggressively and attacking and moves very quickly around the court so I don’t really see how she could lose this one. The serve can be questionable at times but I don’t expect her opponent to be deadly with her return.

Obviously, she can lose the match but for me, it would be a pretty big surprise considering the circumstances. She’s better, younger, in better form and arguably with the better style for clay.

Strycova v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip

As I noted above anything but a comfortable two-set win for Cocciretto would be a major surprise to me.
