Emilio Nava v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

They played once before with Barrere winning that match in three sets. It happened earlier this year on hard indoor courts.

Nava Looking For Wins

Emilio Nava hasn’t been playing good tennis lately with the American posting only a 9-12 record so far. He’s generally a rather talented player but is yet to find a proper breakout.

Madrid could be a good place for him because he generally plays very attacking. A decent serve and good forehand is how he approaches the game but his main issue is consistency. He can’t keep the level that high enough to win many matches consistently.

Unlike most Americans, Nava knows how to play on clay. He posted winning records on it in the past two years but this year he’s only 1-2. He gave his opponent a lot of problems earlier in the year and if he can play similarly he might even win this match.

The serve will be crucial and if he can keep the rallies short I think he can win. He should not try to outhit Barrere because I don’t think he can.

Barrere Faces Tricky Test

Gregoire Barrere has never been the best clay player and his record on the surface last year proves it. He only went 9-12 on it and he’s only 1-2 this year. It’s not good and he can certainly be better on it if he tried a bit more but he generally likes to play very aggressive and snappy tennis and that doesn’t work that well on clay.

He’s good enough to beat young players as he proved in Banja Luka when he took down Serbian talent Hamad Medjedovic so he can certainly take down Nava as well.

Madrid will give him a chance to fire off his good serve and if he can create a lot of weak returns it could be a rather quick match. He’s favoured to win it and it’s mostly down to his experience as she should be able to tap into that in a close match.

That’s exactly what happened in their previous match. Nava took the first set but Barrere proved good enough to turn it around and win in three.

Nava v Barrere Prediction and Tip

So I think Barrere wins this one because he’s a bit more experienced than Nava and I think that will matter in a close match.
