Petra Kvitova v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 St. Petersburg Open and Kvitova had dropped just three games in that contest.

Kvitova Basking in Miami Title Glory

She is 33 years old but the Czech veteran is refusing to show signs of slowing down. And once again last month, Kvitova displayed why she continues to remain so respected and feared on the women’s circuit.

The former world number two, who had defeated Jessica Pegula on her way to the Indian Wells Open quarterfinal, went three steps further in Miami as she came through with the title.

On her way to the tournament win, Kvitova overcame Donna Vekic, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Elena Rybakina to grab the title, dropping just one set on her way. It helped break back into the top 10.

Kvitova will now enter her first clay court competition of the season with somewhat of mixed feelings having won just one of the five matches she had played on dirt in 2022. Her opening opponent should not pose too much of a threat though.

Niemeier Sends Wang Out

With just two main draw wins under her belt for the season, Niemeier wouldn’t have felt too confident coming up against Xinyu Wang in her first round match here.

Fortunately for her, Wang hasn’t had the best record on clay either, so despite her underwhelming performances all season, Niemeier had actually started off as a favourite in this one.

And Niemeier lived up to those 1/2 winning odds as she came through 6-4, 6-2 in a mere hour and 28 minutes to seal first ever win on her Madrid Open debut.

Niemeier grabbed an early break of serve to go 4-1 up and while she failed to serve it out at 5-3, the German broke right back to wrap up the first set. In the second, Wang took the early break of serve but from that point on it was all Niemeier who broke her opponent three times to grab the win.

Against Kvitova, Niemeier will hope she can use her clay court solidity to test her out but she will have to be at her best.

Kvitova v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

Kvitova starts off a favourite and we reckon she will come through but not before Niemeier puts up a bit of a fight. It could still be in two sets but with one of them going deep.
