Laslo Djere v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Karatsev leads Djere 1-0, but with an asterisk to it. The Serbian retired with an injury in their clash at the Alicante Challenger in 2018, down 1-4.

Djere Suffers Painful Loss in Banja Luka

Laslo Djere was left to ponder on what could have been in Banja Luka after losing to Alex Molcan in the quarterfinal. The Serbian World No. 70 did immense work from the baseline to haul himself into the match after dropping the first set.

He would also rally from a break down deep in the third set and went on to take a 5-3 lead. Djere surged to a 30-0 lead while serving for the match, but remarkably, failed to get it done and lost four straight games.

It was a disappointing way to lose the match and which surely left a bad taste in his trip to Madrid. It meant that he has yet to conquer the quarterfinal hurdle this year, having lost at the same stage in a couple of other tournaments.

But on the bright side, Djere looks in top-notch form on clay, already up with six wins on the surface, with his last two defeats coming in two very close matches.

Karatsev Near-Perfect in Qualifying

Aslan Karatsev produced two sizzling performances in qualifying for the main draw at the Madrid Masters.

Less than 24 hours after blitzing past Raul Brancaccio, Karatsev drew the top-seeded player in the qualifying draw and recent Monte Carlo quarterfinalist Jan-Lennard Struff.

But the German was a shadow of the player who struck gold at the Principality and Karatsev was clinical off the ground. Karatsev converted three of his seven break points and tallied 44% of return points won behind the return.

Karatsev’s serve was impregnable. He did not face a single break point in the match. Despite landing 67% of first serves, he won 82% of those points.

Since January, Karatsev has only managed to win one main draw match on the ATP Tour, which only came recently in Munich this past week when he produced that crazy turnaround against Daniel Altmaier.

Djere v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

In Banja Luka, it was another stinging loss in Djere’s clay swing, but he’ll be expected to bounce back just as he did in Monte Carlo. Karatsev’s strong qualifying run, however, means Djere might not be a solid pick in the moneyline.
