Lorenzo Sonego v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

They only played once so far and Sonego was able to win that match on grass.

Sonego Hopeful on Winning Two Matches

It’s been a very strange season for Lorenzo Sonego as he is picking up wins but he seems allergic to winning more than one match at an event. The last time that happened was in Miami and since returning to what many consider is his best surface, the Italian has been playing up and down.

He’s only 10-11 this year but that could certainly change in Madrid as his serve could receive a boost. Most of his best results on a tennis court have come on courts where he can have his serve do most of the damage but then it depends on whether he actually serves well that day.

Madrid was a 1st round exit last year for him but he’s hopeful that this year he can finally get it done. The opponent is a tricky one but also one he defeated before.

The key will be the serve no question because he won’t get many chances to break so holding his serve will be very crucial.

Struff Hopeful to Repeat Monte-Carlo

Jan-Lennard Stuff has been on a tear this year posting a 28-12 record so far. He’s been playing a lot of tennis and he seemed a bit fatigued in Munich following a good run in Monte-Carlo which was the likely cause for his early exit. After some rest, he should be good to go and Madrid is a good chance for him.

His serve is his major weapon but he can hit winners from both the forehand and backhand. A willingness to go to the net is another thing he can use well in Madrid if he actually serves well.

He hasn’t had too much success in Madrid in the past but he’s won matches here so that should not be a problem. A lot will depend on whether he actually plays well. His Monte-Carlo level could carry him far but will he show up.

It’s hard to guess but I suppose he will be decent. With his serve he can certainly squeeze out a few wins but he needs to be careful in the first round against a player that has a similar skillset to him.

Sonego v Struff Prediction and Tip

Both of these players are heavily reliant on their serves so the player who has a better way in that regard is likely to win. I expect a close match either way.
