Anhelina Kalinina v Mayer Sherif Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before, and Kalinina has won on each occasion, both matches taking place in 2021, first in Montpellier, and then at the US Open.

Kalinina Reached Madrid Quarter-Final Last Year
Kalinina has yet to taste tournament success on the main tour, although she was a beaten finalist on the clay of Hungary two years ago.
However, she will have warm memories of this event from a year ago, when she reached the quarter-finals in Madrid, with her victims then Sloane Stephens, Emma Radecanu and Garbine Muguruza, before losing to the Swiss Jil Teichmann.
Her recent form suggests that may have been an outlier – although she reached the third round of the Australian Open, and the quarter-final in Dubai, her first match on clay this year did not end well.
She was beaten in the first round in Charleston by Anna Kalinskaya, the world number 62, losing in straight sets.

Egyptian Profits from Italian’s Retirement
Arab tennis is on the rise just now, with Ons Jabeur proving to be a trail blazer, although Sherif has also been making a name for herself.
Having been a beaten finalist in Romania in 2021, she won her maiden title in Emilio Romagna last year, both of those tournaments being played on clay.
She had only appeared in Madrid once before, beaten in the first round of qualifying last year, but the Egyptian finds herself in the second round, although how she got there is not how she would have wished.
Playing the Italian Camila Giorgi, Sherif dropped the first set, courtesy of one break of serve, but fought back to level the match in the second.
Giorgi, who was struggling, then called for medical assistance, before deciding that she could not continue and retired.
Kalinina v Sherif Prediction and Tip
