Caroline Garcia v Mayar Sherif Head to Head

They have played each once before this and Garcia had won that match earlier this year in Monterrey.

Garcia Eases Past Putintseva

Garcia has done decently this season but if you compare it with her performances last season, she might not be the happiest. Either ways, the Frenchwoman started off her Madrid Open campaign well as she overcame Yulia Putintseva in the second round with ease.

Needing an hour and 36 minutes, Garcia carved out a 6-3, 6-4 win over Putintseva, as she hammered away a whopping 18 aces in the encounter.

A break of serve in the sixth game of the match was all that she needed and while she did face a break-point while serving for the set, Garcia managed to overcome that and take the lead.

In the second, Garcia raced away to a 4-0 scoreline with a couple of breaks of serves. Putintseva put in a late effort in breaking past Garcia but the Frenchwoman served out to love to enter round three.

Sherif Makes it Two Shocks in a Row

A quarterfinalist at the Monterrey Open earlier this, Sherif registered her second successive shock win in this tournament when she defeated Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets.

Having made the second round following an opening match retirement of Camila Girogi after they had been tied at a set apiece, Sherif managed a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Kalinina. The match lasted an hour and 36 minutes.

Sherif started off well as she broke Kalinina twice in the opening set to race to the lead before a topsy-turvy second set made life difficult for her. Kalinina was a break up to begin with, Sherif then broke two times to take a 4-2 lead before Kalinina repeated the same dose to set herself to serve for the set at 6-5.

She was broken again by Sherif, who then went on to grab match in the following tie-breaker.

Can Egyptian make things work in her favour against the world number five now?

Garcia v Sherif Prediction and Tip

Garcia should not have a lot of trouble against her 59th-ranked opponent and come through in two.
