Petra Martic v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

Kalinskaya leads 1-0, beating Martic in the 2021 Miami Open in three sets.

Martic Knocks Out Siegemund

Number 27 seed Petra Martic enjoyed a bye into round two in the Mutua Madrid Open, where she beat Laura Siegemund 7-6(6), 6-3.

It was a much-needed win for the Croat, who is now 11-9 in 2023. Barring her runner-up feat in the Linz Open, where she upset the likes of Maria Sakkari and Clara Tauson en route, Martic has had to settle for early exits this year.

Case in point, the 32-year-old fell to Elise Mertens in Miami in round three, while in Stuttgart, she cleared the qualifiers but lost to Anastasia Potapova in round one.

That said, Petra has some experience on clay, and she is in a good position to stage a comeback. Her best results on the surface include quarterfinal stints in Madrid and the French Open in 2019 and three WTA clay finals.

Kalinskaya with a Big Win

Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya has just posted one of the biggest victories of her professional career. Playing Elena Rybakina (current #7) in round two, she prevailed 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 in a little over two hours.

The 24-year-old did well to match Rybakina’s fierce play and even exceed at times to beat the reigning Indian Wells Open champion.

That win followed a similar three-set win over Brenda Fruhvirtova in the opening match.

All in all, Kalinskaya is now 13-10 and looks set to move up in the rankings from her current spot of #62. Most recently, she was a quarterfinalist in Charleston, where she beat Anhelina Kalinina, Alize Cornet, and Victoria Azarenka.

Apart from this, Anna reached the quarterfinal in Austin and round two in Adelaide – as a qualifier.

Kalinskaya v Martic Prediction and Tip

Martic has a clear advantage here owing to her experience. That said, Kalinskaya has carved a big upset and fuelled by that confidence, she may very well beat Martic too.

Expect an entertaining affair.
