Qinwen Zheng v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

Alexandrova leads 1-0, meeting Zheng in the 2022 Charleston Open. Zheng retired in the final set to give Alexandrova a late walkover into the quarterfinal.

Qinwen Beats McNally

Number 22 seed Qinwen Zheng needed some time to win against Caty McNally. It was a two-hour-and-17-minutes affair that ended in a 6-4, 7-6(3) win for the Chinese sensation.

Over the match, Zheng dished out seven aces and won 66% of the points behind the first serve.

Currently ranked 24th in the world, with a 13-7 win-loss record, the 20-year-old is steadily climbing up the ranks. With a peak position of 23rd in March, she’s a force to be reckoned with, and it won’t be long before she breaks into the top 20.

Despite facing her fair share of ups and downs, Zheng has been making headlines with her stellar performances.

She made it to the semifinals in Abu Dhabi and the fourth round in Miami. Even though she’s suffered some early exits in other tournaments, she’s defeated the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Liudmila Samsonova, and Jelena Ostapenko this year.

Zheng has some experience playing on clay, and it’s clear that she’s in decent form to dominate her upcoming match.

Alexandrova Beats Cornet

Ekaterina Alexandrova, seeded number 16, started well with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over Alize Cornet in the second round.

In what has been a pretty decent year for the Russian, she has added another win to improve her record to 10-8.

Her highlights include consecutive quarterfinal feats in Miami and Charleston, defeating the likes of Belinda Bencic, Bianca Andreescu, and Yulia Putintseva en route. Moreover, in February, Alexandrova reached her career-best ranking of #16.

As a semifinalist in last year’s Madrid Open (as a qualifier), the current World No. 17 recorded her best results in a WTA 1000 event. Interestingly enough, she is yet to reach a WTA final on the clay court.

Zheng v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

This match can go either way. Both players are in similar form but Alexandrova has more experience – and that may come in handy in situations like these.
