Carlos Alcaraz v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and Alcaraz had won that in straight sets in last year’s Paris Masters.

Alcaraz Struggles Past Ruusuvuori

It could have turned out to be a stunning result but Alcaraz managed to prevail in the end as he scraped past Emil Ruusuvuori in a match lasting two hours and 16 minutes.

Alcaraz was broken twice in his 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win which also included nine other break-point opportunities for his opponent. Fortunately for the world number, he managed to save those including five in the sixth game of the second set where he held Ruusuvuori and levelled the set at 3-3.

Once Alcaraz had got himself the all-important break in the second set and run with it, he broke Ruusuvuori two more times in the final set to grab his place in the third round.

It was a surprising to see how things went for Alcaraz who was coming off a title win in Barcelona where he won five matches in straight sets including the final against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He will hope to feel more settled in his next match.

Dimitrov Needs Two Tie-Breakers against Dimitrov

Having played in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona in clay-court competitions before this, Dimitrov had won his opener at both those tournaments. He lost to Jiri Lehecka at the former and had to withdraw from the Barcelona Open because of an illness.

Here, starting out a 1/5 favourite against Gregoire Barrere, Dimitrov limped to a two-set win which saw both go into tie-breakers.

In a match that lasted nearly two hours, Dimitrov saved a set-point in the first set before clinching it 8-6 in a tie-breaker. In the second, Dimitrov faced four break-points in the eighth game but managed to save all of them again before making it through 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2).

Dimitrov faces a huge challenge and unless he can up his game to another level or his opponent has another downer, this might not be going his way.

Alcaraz v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz might have struggled in the previous round but he would have taken a lot out of it and should not have those issues again. Expecting a straight-set rout here.
