Zverev Has His Troubles in Opener

After getting a first round bye, Zverev was in a bit of trouble against Roberto Carballes Baena before finally making his way through to the third round.

Zverev was on court for three hours and 21 minutes in a match that saw him lose his serve just once while getting the better of his opponent’s serve on five occasions. He slammed 12 aces and won 80% of his first serve points in his 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-0 victory.

Carballes Baena had a couple of set-points at 6-5 and then saved one in the tie-breaker before clinching it off his third.

The German then fell a break down in the second set as well but from that point on, things turned a corner for him. He broke right back, saved a break-point in the 11th game and then broke Carballes Baena four times in a row to win the second and third sets.

Can Zverev get a breather from these difficult matches when he takes on his 128th-ranked opponent?

Grenier Continues to Shock

Grenier has never been ranked higher than 95th in the world and he entered the qualifiers of this tournament at 128th on the ATP charts.

He has played four matches since, each of which have been against a player who started off a favourite and yet, Grenier has come through!

In the qualifiers, Grenier needed three sets against both, Lukas Klein and Daniel Rincon before stunning Diego Schwartzman (who was 1/4 with bet365) in the first round.

And facing Sebastian Korda in the second, Grenier was a 7/3 underdog but still managed to come through in two tie-breakers on his Madrid Masters debut to make it to the third round.

Grenier did fritter away a couple of set-points in the first set and four match-points in the second but finally ensured he still came through in two hours and 21 minutes.

Zverev could turn out to be a bridge too far.

Zverev v Grenier Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward one for Zverev and he can be expected to come through in straight sets.
