Tsitsipas Comes Back to Oust Thiem
2019 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas moved into the third round of the Madrid Masters with a dramatic come-from-behind win over Dominic Thiem on Saturday.
The world no. 5 lost the first set after Thiem got the solitary break of the set in the fourth game. However, the Greek bounced back on the back of exceptional service display. Tsitsipas landed 39 consecutive first serves during a phase of the game from late opening set to early in the third set.
He dominated the second set to force the decider and then bounced back from 1-3 down in the final set tiebreak to script a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory in two hours and 21 minutes.
Tsitsipas won 88% (50 of 57) of first serve points, saved 1 of 2 break points that he faced and capitalised on 2 of 14 breaking chances.
Tsitsipas, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2019 final, was a semifinalist last year. He has a 21-6 record this year and is coming of a runner-up finish in Barcelona. He has played in two finals this year, having also finished runner-up at the Australian Open.

Baez Rallies Past Giron
No. 25 seed Sebastian Baez began his Madrid campaign with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Marcos Giron in the second round on Saturday.
Coming into the contest on the back of three consecutive defeats, the world no. 31 won 80% points on the back of his first delivery. He conceded the only break of the match in the fourth game of the opening set, but clawed his way back into the contest by breaking Giron once in each of the next two sets.
The 22-year-old, who is making his debut in the tournament, improved his season record to 12-11 following the win.
Baez has an overall record of 11-6 on clay, which includes a title in Cordoba and a semifinal finish in Santiago. He also made it to the quarterfinals in Rio and Estoril.
