Jessica Pegula v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

They have played once before and it came earlier this year at the United Cup. Playing on a hardcourt surface, Pegula had no difficulties getting past Trevisan in straight sets.

Pegula Gets Tested by Bouzkova

Sure it turned out to be a straight-set win in the end but Pegula was taken to a second set tie-breaker by Marie Bouzkova before she managed to carve out that victory.

Pegula was on court for two hours and 17 minutes as she clinched her 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Bouzkova. Earlier in the second round too, Pegula needed a tie-breaker against Magdalena Frech to come through.

What was surprising to watch was Pegula faced a whopping 14 break-points in the encounter, as she struggled with her serving. Getting only 56% of her first serves in, Pegula lost her serve on two occasions including in the first set when she served at 5-4 and in the second when she led 2-0.

In the end, it took Pegula to miss out on three match-points before she sealed her passage.

She might have to face a sterner test against a player who loves her time on clay once she gets going.

Trevisan Doubles Her Madrid Win Count

Having made her Madrid Open debut in 2021, Trevisan had entered this year’s edition on the back of no wins in the main draw of this competition before this.

This time around, Trevisan had started off as one of the seeds to have earned a first round bye before she overcame Eugenie Bouchard in the second round. And in the third round, Trevisan overcame American youngster Alycia Parks 7-6 (3), 6-1 to clinch her place in round four.

In a match lasting an hour and 51 minutes, Trevisan lost her serve three times in the first set including twice in a row as she served for it at 5-2.

Once she recovered to win the tie-breaker, however, things turned around for her as she romped through the second set against the hapless Parks. She saved a break-point in the first game of the second set and raced away to a 5-0 lead from there on before finishing things off soon after.

Can Trevisan now make it tougher for Pegula?

Pegula v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

This looks to be an interesting match-up. On clay, Trevisan can be a huge threat, especially given Pegula hasn’t been at her most comfortable best so far. Which is why despite starting out a 1/5 favourite, we will have to go with a three-setter here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Pegula to win
  • High Risk Tip: Pegula to win in three sets
