Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two and Tsitsipas leads 3-2 on head to head. On clay, they have faced off once before this and that came at the 2019 Barcelona Open where Struff won in three sets.

Tsitsipas Tames Zapata Miralles

Bernabe Zapata Miralles has had his time under the sun in clay-court competitions in the past. Not against Tsitsipas in their fourth round match though.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and 14 minutes, Tsitsipas crushed Zapata Miralles’ hopes and stay in the tournament as he romped to a 6-3, 6-1 win. In turn, he continued with his own good form on dirt, improving to 9-2 on this surface for the season.

Tsitsipas had had some difficulties in both his previous rounds, having dropped a set to Dominic Thiem and then again against Sebastian Baez.

Against Zapata Miralles, however, he never fell behind despite getting broken on three occasions. And once he got a grasp on his serve in the second set, there was no looking back for him.

He should not have a lot of problems against his German opponent here either.

Struff Wins the Battle of the 60s

In a match between two clay-court specialist players ranked in their 60s, Struff edged out Pedro Cachin in three sets to clinch his place in the last eight.

Struff saved a set-point in the first set, saved another set-point in the second before missing a chance to close out the match then and there itself. This was followed by Cachin levelling the match off his second set-point.

In the decider, the two went neck in neck in the first six games as no break-points were forthcoming. Another tie-breaker looked like a possibility when Struff found a way past Cachin’s serve off the very first break-point he got and then off the second, he finished off the match.

Having never gotten beyond the second round at the Madrid Masters before this, Struff had fallen to Aslan Karatsev in the qualifiers here before making it through as a lucky loser.

Wins over Lorenzo Sonego, Ben Shelton and Dusan Lajovic helped him get to the fourth round. He now faces his biggest test of the tournament.

Tsitsipas v Struff Prediction and Tip

While Struff has been doing a good job, he hasn’t faced a top-notch player in the tournament yet. Tsitsipas should make things very difficult for his opponent and come through in two.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match
