Anett Kontaveit v Alycia Parks Head to Head
Svitolina leads 2-1, beating Tsurenko last in the 2017 Cincinnati Open in straight sets.

Kontaveit Struggling to Win
Anett Kontaveit, once a World No. 2, has fallen on tough times of late – not due to her own fault. A back injury forced her to end the 2022 season early – a year which also saw the Estonian pick up Covid-19 and then miss a few tournaments due to recovery.
She then began the new season in Adelaide – only to lose her opening matches to the likes of Qinwen Zheng and Paula Badosa. In the Australian Open and WTA Abu Dhabi, she did win her opening bouts, but the success did not last for long.
In round two in Abu Dhabi, she retired against Shelby Rogers – once again due to back problems. Kontaveit missed a few months again to recover – returning to the fray only in the Madrid Open. She lost her opening match to Karolina Muchova 2-6, 2-6.
The 27-year-old is now ranked #82 and is 2-5 in 2023.
A semifinalist here in 2018, Kontaveit’s chances of delivering a deep run this time are slim. The priority will be to have a pain-free match where she finds her groove – but that is easier said than done.

Parks Building Some Traction
World No. 49 Alycia Parks is set to make her debut in the Italian Open this week. The 22-year-old American most recently played in the Madrid Open, where she reached the third round.
It was quite a feat as she punched above her weight and upset more experienced players like Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and Victoria Azarenka. Parks ultimately lost to Martina Trevisan in straight sets.
That was Alycia’s second-best run of the season, the other being her title feat in Lyon. She bagged her maiden WTA title by beating none other than Caroline Garcia 7-6(7), 7-5 in the final. In the same event, she had also beaten Petra Martic and Danka Kovinic.
A hard-court specialist, it will be interesting to see how she fares on the red track.
Parks v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip
Parks has a real chance of winning this one – largely due to her opponent’s poor run of results. Of course, the equation will change completely if Kontaveit has done enough to recuperate well and have seamless practice.
Backing the American may not be the worst play here.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Parks to win 2-1: 7/4
