Having been out for most part of the season because of fitness concerns, Moutet made a return to competitive sport in the last week of April. He participated in the Madrid Masters where he faced Yosuke Watanuki, a 117th-ranked player in his first round.
That Moutet lost wasn’t too much of a surprise but the manner in which he went out, in straight sets and without putting up too much of a show, underlines the lack of match fitness and rustiness.
Which is why it would be interesting to see how the Frenchman goes in this opener against a qualifier.
The good news for Moutet is that he likes his time on clay, having even won two Challenger titles on this surface last season. He had also defeated Stan Wawrinka in the first round of the 2022 French Open and he would know it could just be a matter of some more court time before he turns things around.

Marozsán Beginning to Prosper
The Hungarian 23-year-old Marozsan came to the fore last season when he clinched a Challenger tournament in August in Banja Luka. In turn he broke into the top 200.
Soon after he made it to another Challenger final in Slovakia and while he didn’t win that, Marozsan doubled his tally count in March 2023 in Antalya. He jumped into the top 130 of the rankings as a result.
Things haven’t quite gone his way since with a semifinal appearance at a Challenger tournament following soon after and just two main draw wins on that circuit after that punctuating his results. What he would, however, be supremely proud of is his performance in the qualifiers here.
Marozsan was 4/5 in his opening qualifying match against Timofey Skatov and won that in three before easing past the 4/5 favourite Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the second round.
He will hope he can make Moutet work hard for his win here.
