Anhelina Kalinina v Anna Blinkova Head to Head
Blinkova has dominated this matchup in the past leading 5-1. The last one was played last year and Blinkova won.

The last time Anhelina Kalinina won a match was at Indian Wells two months ago. She played four matches since then and lost all of them including the one on clay in Madrid. It’s been rather clear that she’s been struggling with her confidence lately.
Her tennis largely depends on that because she does tend to play really flat with deep shots and quite a few can sail wide if she’s unsure. Right now it’s been quite bad though the year overall is okay with a 10-10 record. Clay is one of her better surfaces but she’s 0-2 this year.
Just two years ago she was 34-5 on it so it’s clear that it’s a confidence issue. That won’t help when she looks at the H2H against Blinkova as the Russian dominated this matchup.
I don’t see it for Kalinina here because unless she produces the best level she produced all year, she’s likely to lose the match.

Anna Blinkova was on the brink of defeat against a really strong clay player in Mayar Sherif. The Egyptian cruised in the first set and was up a break in the second set but then Blinkova let loose a little and her groundstrokes started to hit the target.
She completely turned the match around winning in three and she should be feeling really good after that. She’s going to be quite confident in this one and that’s largely to her dominance against Kalinina in the past. She lost only one match out of six and both clay matches were won by Blinkova.
Most of those matches were a few years ago but she’s catching Kalinina at a really bad time for her in the season. I just think it’s a perfect storm for the Russian to take advantage and win the match.
It’s been an okay season for her with a 13-12 record so far and 4-4 on clay.

As I said above I just think that Blinkova has far more faith in her game right now and that’s largely the reason why I back her to win.
