Jil Teichmann v Julia Grabher Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, on clay in Istanbul last year, Grabher winning their second round match in straight sets.

Teichmann Fortunate to be Seeded

Teichmann can consider herself fortunate to be seeded, since the points that she accumulated last year for reaching the semi-finals in Madrid and the quarter-finals of this event have now expired.

She carried that form into the French Open where she reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, but so far, her performances this year have failed to live up to those levels.

The Swiss number two did reach the third round in Indian Wells, but results since then have been disappointing. She was beaten in the first round in Miami, Charleston and then in Madrid.

In a bid to find some form again, she turned to the Challenger tour and reached the quarter-finals of an event in Spain.

The recipient of a first round bye, she will be hoping that being back on Italian soil will help to inspire her again.

Grabher Makes Hard Work of Beating Wildcard

Grabher is making her debut in Rome, although she should not be lacking in confidence, having recently reached a career ranking high.

And, if she could have hand-picked her first round opponent, she might well have chosen the Italian wildcard Nuria Brancaccio, ranked 178 in the world. Despite that, the Austrian made heavy weather of beating her considerably less experienced opponent.

The first set saw the pair share four breaks before another dropped serve from Brancaccio handed Grabher the first set.

But the Austrian let her advantage slip by dropping her serve at an inopportune time in the second set, and soon the match was all square again.

And when she went a break down at the start of the third set, a minor upset seemed on the cards. Fortunately for Grabher, she wrested control back by winning the next four games, and from then on it was just a case of seeing out the match.

Teichmann v Grabher Prediction and Tip

Although Teichmann has been struggling for form of late, she did reach the quarter-finals here last year, and if she can get back near to those performance levels, she should too strong for the Austrian who had her own difficulties against the local wildcard.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Teichmann to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 21/20
