Roberto Carballes Baena v Dan Evans Head to Head

They played a few weeks ago in Marrakech and Carballes Baena was able to win the match.

Carballes Baena in Great Form, Beats Dellien in R1

Roberto Carballes Baena has been in really great form lately but he’s been playing well for a while. The Spaniard is 11-11 on the year which doesn’t indicate anything special but he’s been truly playing a lot better than that record indicates.

Clay is his best surface and he took down a really good clay player in Hugo Dellien in the first round. It was a simple match in two sets and that was important because he tends to drag out matches more than he needs to in some cases.

Evans is a player he beat recently but it was a long match that went to three sets and we might see another one here. Carballes Baena is the favourite once more because clay suits him far better than Evans and he’s actually showing a lot of confidence right now.

He’s 7-2 in his last nine matches on the surface so expect him to come out strong and try to impose himself on his oppenent.

Evans’s Form Dropping Lately

Dan Evans started off his year on clay pretty well with some solid showings in Marrakech. Monte-Carlo was poor but then he found some really good form in Barcelona. Now it’s back to losing ways as he has two losses in a row but for the most part, he’s been okay.

It’s not his best surface but he has ways to beat you on this surface and famously beat Novak Djokovic on clay in Monte-Carlo a few years ago.

He likes to play longer rallies and force you to miss the ball however that’s a bad tactic against Carballes Baena because he does that even better than him on clay. Their match tends to be a physical affair and Evans is far more likely to lose his cool in that type of match.

Marrakech was a close one and expect him to want to avenge that loss however I’m not sure he’s going to be able to produce the necessary level.

This promises to be a very interesting one but also very tough to call. I prefer Carballes Baena when picking the winner but don’t be surprised if this goes three.
