Sinner Too Good for Kokkinakis

Thanasi Kokkinakis is a scrappy player at most times but he has his issues on clay. And Sinner was there to exploit those issues and move into the third round with a straightforward rout.

Sinner needed an hour and 19 minutes for his 6-1, 6-4 win in a match where he was barely tested.

In fact Sinner was so dominant in the encounter that he dropped a mere three points on his serve all match! Yes, you read that right – in the nine games he served, Sinner lost only three points.

On the other hand, Kokkinakis was broken three times and including the decisive one in the seventh game of the second set. Sinner missed a match-point on his opponent’s serve in the ninth game but then grabbed the second change he had to bring home the win.

This would have been doubly pleasing given Sinner had had to miss the Madrid Masters because of an illness.

Lucky Loser Shevchenko Enters Round Three

Having lost to Arthur Fils in the qualifiers, Shevchenko was offered a lifeline when Tallon Griekspoor withdrew from the tournament. Because of the late nature of that withdrawal, Shevchenko not only earned himself a place in the main draw as a lucky loser he also got a first round bye.

And then in the second round, Shevchenko shocked Sebastian Baez in straight sets to set up this Sinner meeting.

The Russian, who had climbed up to his career-best ranking of 93rd in the world before the start of this tournament, was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over the 9/20 favourite Baez.

The match lasted an hour and 45 minutes and saw Shevchenko save six of the seven break-points he faced even as he got the better of Baez’s serve on three occasions.

And what that meant was that for the second Masters tournament in a row, Shevchenko had made it to the third round, having done exactly the same in Madrid. There he had beaten JJ Wolf and Jiri Lehecka to get to round three, further signifying this win over Baez was no fluke.

Sinner v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip

Sinner should be able to end Shevchenko’s fairy-tale here and in straight sets too. Expect Sinner to make quick work of his third round match.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 4/5
