Norrie Cruises Past Muller
Since reaching the quarterfinal of the Indian Wells Masters, Norrie has stumbled a little and he would have been looking out for the kind of win that he got in his opener here.
The Brit was on court for a mere hour and 15 minutes in his second round match against Alexandre Muller as he registered a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Slamming four aces and saving the only break-point he faced in the encounter, Norrie got the better of his opponent’s serve three times. In doing so, Norrie reached the third round at the Rome Masters for the first time in his career.
Norrie hasn’t had the best European clay court season so far with just three wins to go with his three defeats. Can he overturn that and emulate what he had achieved in the South American clay swing where he was 8-1 on win-loss?

Fucsovics Stuns de Minaur
Alex de Minaur’s form has been a concern but that does not mean he wasn’t a favourite going into his second round match against Fucsovics. Fucsovics was a 4/3 underdog against his Aussie opponent and yet came through in straight sets to set up a third round meeting with Norrie.
In a match lasting an hour and 53 minutes, Fucsovics was a 6-3, 6-4 winner despite facing a whopping 11 break-points in the encounter.
After trading early breaks of serves in the first set, Fucsovics got past de Minaur’s serve in the fifth game and then again in the ninth to take the lead. De Minaur went 3-1 and then 4-2 ahead in the second but a recharged Fucsovics broke him in successive games to come away a surprise winner.
This follows his opening round victory over Filip Krajinovic which in turn gives him his first set of successive wins on clay this season.
Can he now test Norrie?
