Richard Gasquet v Mikael Ymer Head to Head
The pair have played each other three times before on a variety of hard courts, and Ymer leads their head to head series on that surface by two matches to one.
The Swede won in Marseille in 2020, and again in Montpellier two years later, but, a few weeks after that, it was Gasquet who emerged the winner in Marseille again.
Last week they met on clay for the first time in the Bordeaux Challenger event, and it was Gasquet who won in straight sets.

Gasquet’s Recent Form is Patchy
Despite his success over the years – he has appeared in 33 senior finals, winning 16 of them – Gasquet would be the first to admit that clay is not his favourite surface.
It has been eight years since his last clay court tournament victory, and it was back in 2016 that he enjoyed his best run at his home Grand Slam event, reaching the last eight in Paris.
Now 36, time is running out for him to improve on that record.
Certainly his recent form on the surface has been patchy.
He was beaten in the first round in both Marrakech and Monte Carlo, before improving on that slightly in Banja Luka and Madrid, where he reached the second round on both occasions.
A first round defeat in Rome, however, was a return to the norm. He then entered the Challenger event in Bordeaux, but was beaten in the semi-finals there by compatriot Ugo Humbert.

Ymer Underprepared on Clay This Year
Earlier this year, Ymer reached a new career high world ranking after his performances on French soil in Montpellier and Marseille.
Those tournaments, though, were on hard courts, and, after picking up an injury in Miami, he did not play for nearly two months before making his reappearance in Bordeaux where he lost to Gasquet.
As a consequence, he is short of practice on clay ahead of next week’s French Open.
He does, though, have a reasonable record in Paris, having reached the third round there in each of the past two years.
And, having reached several Challenger clay court finals in his career, the surface should hold no mysteries for him.
Gasquet v Ymer Prediction and Tip
Given that they met just last week, and Gasquet won that match, he will begin the favourite to do so again. However, that contest was close, especially in the first set, and this encounter may be no different.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Gasquet to win: 5/7
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
